Membership

Be part of our society and subsrcibe our annual membership, starting from only £16 p.a.

“In a modest way I have combated evil, but to take on the Father of Evil himself would, perhaps, be too ambitious a task.”

The Hound of the Baskervilles

The aim of The Poor Folk Upon the Moors has always been to increase the knowledge and understanding of its members in the life and times of Mr Sherlock Holmes, the world’s first private consulting detective, and his friend and colleague Dr John H. Watson as portrayed within the stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

We aim to do so in a friendly and informal manner and publish a biannual journal entitled The Torr in which our members can submit and answer any articles they feel have reference to the topic. t also includes news and reviews of a Holmesian nature for the benefit of our members.

We also host a variety of social events in the West Country throughout the year, ranging from discussions and debates on all aspects of the Canon (the collected stories of Sherlock Holmes) to dinners, auctions, river cruises, walks on Dartmoor and, of course, our AGM (with accompanying luncheon).  All members benefit from reduced rates for society events at which guests and friends are always welcome.
